Recent research highlights the key role of microbial communities in the large intestine in essential immune defence mechanisms and control of inflammatory responses (Abt et al., 2012 and Ganal et al., 2012). Comparison of a commercial ELISA (25-OH-Vitamin D Kit, Eagle Biosciences®) and Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC/MS) assay to determine the serum 25-hydroxycholecalciferol in the broiler chicken.

An experiment was conducted to compare the serum 25-hydroxycholecalciferol (25-OH-D3) concentrations values in broiler chickens from two different analytical assays.This recent publication compares EagleBio’s 25-OH Vitamin D ELISA with a Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC/MS) assay. In this study, it was evident that both assays were able to detect changes in the serum 25-OH-D3 concentration during the 24-h exposure to the treatment diets. Read more

EagleBio’s New Addition to the Gate City Marathon and Relay: EagleBio Junior Team

EagleBio had not one but TWO teams enter the Gate City Marathon and Relay this year, our original EagleBio Team from last year (a.k.a. Nerd Herd) and a new addition, the EagleBio Junior Team (a.k.a. Nyoko)

EagleBio Junior Team proud of their medals and it is a true reflection of their hard work!


These boys run for two different middle schools and have been racing against each other at the local, state, regional, and even national level for years and finally got a chance to join forces running as EagleBio Junior Team.

Even when they are not running on the same team they motivate each other on the course and help each other to reach their goals. This is a group of talented young runners who truly enjoy the sport and they are an inspiration to other runners young and old!

They ran hard during the Gate City Marathon and Relay and had a ball in a true spirit of competition and friendship. They placed second with a time of 2:46:19!

Outstanding job to both our teams, we are so very proud of you!

methylated derivative and structural isomer of the amino acid L-arginine

SDMA correlates well with parameters of renal function, in both humans and

A vaccine against one of the most dangerous hospital germs may soon be available. Scientists from the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in Potsdam and the Freie Universität Berlin have developed a substance that elicits an immune response against the gut bacterium Clostridium difficile. The potential vaccine resembles the sugar structures presented on the surface of the bacterium and therefore primes the immune system to recognize the pathogen itself.C. difficile infects a large proportion of patients in hospitals and kills around 15,000 people a year in the USA alone. Doctors could treat the infection with antibiotics, but the bacterium mutates constantly, allowing it to escape the effects of the drugs. The discovery by the Max Planck researchers may pave the way for developing inexpensive and effective vaccines and drugs against C. difficile.

Urocortin 2 (Ucn 2), also known as stresscopin-related peptide, is a novel predicted neuropeptide related to corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF).(3)

 

Why Measure Urocortin (Ucn2)?

  • Ucn 2 had been used in cardiovascular reseach related to treat ischemic heart disease because of because of its potent cardioprotective effect in the mouse heart (1).
  • Ucn 2 has also been used in bone metabolism and muscled wasting disease research related to loss of skeletal muscle mass resulting from disuse due to casting, corticosteroid treatment, and nerve damage. It has been discovered that Ucn 2 can increase skeletal muscle mass and force (2).
  • Mouse urocortin 2 (Ucn 2) is a new peptide and its physiological significance has not yet been fully elucidated. Experimental data presented to date provided evidence that there are important physiologic roles of Ucn 2 thus there is a great need for further investigation for various areas of research and points of view.
