“Zika virus (ZIKV) is an emerging flavivirus that causes congenital abnormalities and Guillain-Barré syndrome. ZIKV infection also results in severe eye disease characterized by optic neuritis, chorioretinal atrophy, and blindness in newborns and conjunctivitis and uveitis in adults. We evaluated ZIKV infection of the eye by using recently developed mouse models of pathogenesis. ZIKV-inoculated mice developed conjunctivitis, panuveitis, and infection of the cornea, iris, optic nerve, and ganglion and bipolar cells in the retina.” Read More

Fecal calprotectin levels were determined by EagleBio’s Calprotectin ELISA.  The Eagle Biosciences Calprotectin ELISA Assay kit is intended for use in the quantitative determination of human calprotectin (neutrophil cytoplasmic protein S100A8/A9, MRP 8/14) levels in stool samples via Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. This assay kit is for research use only and should not be used in diagnostic procedures.  Learn More

Study finds potential new biomarker for cancer patient prognosis

“To treat or not to treat? That is the question researchers at the Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) hope to answer with a new advance that could help doctors and their cancer patients decide if a particular therapy would be worth pursuing”  Read More

The 4th Coral Gables Symposium

Biltmore Hotel, Miami, FL

October 5-7, 2016

This years´ Coral Gables Symposia will provide a unique forum for thought leaders to address the principal concerns regarding immunogenicity and the patient. In particular, how an understanding of the immune response to biopharmaceuticals can benefit the patient both in terms of optimizing therapy, mitigating side effects, and improving outcome.

“What if you could design a drug that has all the pain-relieving power of morphine but none of its dangerous or addictive side effects?

Scientists have spent years trying to do just that, and on Wednesday, they unveiled one of their most promising compounds yet — a chemical concoction they dubbed “PZM21.” ”  Read More

Product Highlights: ADMA Fast ELISA

Eagle
Biosciences’ Cardiovascular Assay Kit Line is comprised of a full list of
unique assays for the comprehensive determination of important and emerging
biomarkers of cardiovascular disease. Our ADMA Fast ELISA
is one of the unique assays in the this Cardiovascular Assay Kit Line that offers a variety of advantages over competing kits such as excellent
specificity, sensitivity, and excellent correlation to LC-MS/MS.

Why Measure ADMA (Asymmetric
Dimethylarginine)?

ADMA is an endogenous
molecule which can be detected in human blood and urine and it acts as an
inhibitor of nitric oxide (NO) synthesis [2]. Elevated ADMA levels indicate the presence of a variety of diseases and
health conditions. Vallance et. al decribes, “Many researchers
today agree that ADMA may play a prominent role in the pathogenesis and in the
progression of cardiovascular diseases – specifically atherosclerosis” [1]. The measurement of ADMA levels in serum or
plasma provides incredible value and insight beyond traditional risk markers in
cardiovascular research.

Key Advantages of EagleBio’s ADMA
Fast ELISA

  • Excellent specificity
  • High Sensitivity
  • Excellent correlation to LC-MS/MS
  • Precise results under 3 Hours

“There were few studies of Zika virus (ZIKV), a
flavivirus, until this past year, when large epidemics
in the Americas were accompanied by
unexpectedly severe clinical manifestations. Infection
in pregnant women has emerged as a
major global concern because of its linkage to
congenital abnormalities including microcephaly,
spontaneous abortion, and intrauterine growth
restriction.1
In addition, ZIKV infection in other
age groups has been associated with severe neurologic
disease and the Guillain–Barré syndrome.”

Fibroblast growth factor 21 has no direct role in regulating fertility in female mice

EagleBio’s Intact FGF-21 ELISA Kit was recently cited in Boston Study:

“Recently, another nutritionally regulated hormone, FGF21, has
been proposed as a regulator of fertility in rodents based on the finding that
female mice overexpressing FGF21 to supraphysiologic levels (FGF21-Tg) have
delayed onset of puberty and remain infertile through adulthood
[13]. In
this proposed model, FGF21 synthesized and secreted into the circulation by the
liver acts on the SCN to suppress the production of vasopressin (
AVP) which further suppresses kisspeptin-1 (Kiss-1), an important regulator of fertility.” Read More
