Assay Background
Mast / stem cell growth factor receptor (SCFR), also known as the proto-oncogene c-Kit, tyrosine protein kinase Kit or CD117, is a protein encoded in humans by the KIT1 gene located on human chromosome 4 . Multiple transcription variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene2. KIT was first described by the German biochemist Axel Ullrich in 1987 as the cell homologue of the feline sarcoma viral oncogene v-kit3.
CD117 is a cytokine receptor (en) expressed on the surfaces of hematopoietic stem cells as other cell types. Altered forms of this receptor may be associated with certain types of cancer5. CD117 is a receptor with tyrosine kinase type III activity that binds Stem Cell Factor (a stem cell growth factor, belonging to the cytokine family), also known in English as “steel factor” or “c -Ligand kit “. When this receptor binds the stem cell factor (SCF), it then forms a protein dimer (en) that activates its intrinsic protein kinase activity, which in turn phosphorylates and activates signal transduction molecules that propagate this signal into the cell. . CD117 signal transduction plays a role in cell survival, proliferation and differentiation.
