Major Breakthrough for Alzheimer’s: Treatment in the Horizon

The amazing, groundbreaking results from a recent study conducted by researchers at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and Cenna Biosciences, Inc. could ultimately translate into human treatment. They have discovered compounds that block beta amyloids in mice. In fact, this new method has the potential to completely halt the disease all together which other methods in the past have not been able to do. Other drugs and research from previous studies have targeted cleaving beta amyloid from its larger precursor protein but in the process these drugs have cleaved other proteins as well causing undesirable effects on the body.

The accumulation and build up of amyloids plaques have been believed to cause the irreversible damage in the brain that affects cognitive function and other symptoms associated with Alzheimer’s. Therefore, a compound that directly attacks amyloids is key to successful treatment and this new compound (P8 Compound) does just that. Read More
