What are Pinocchio Flasks intended for?

The Pinocchio Flask is a smart glassware designed for direct monitoring of microorganism growth during culture. The integrated anaerobic culture tube allows optical density measurements to be taken in situ, while maintaining perfectly stable conditions.

Example Organisms

Strict anaerobes or oxygen-sensitive processes: allows for OD measurements without risk of oxygen contamination from opening the container.

Extremophiles in controlled gaseous environments: maintains a homogeneous gas balance throughout the culture. Resistant to elevated pressures from gas-producing microorganisms, easily sample gas using a gas-tight syringe through the septum without compromising sterility or internal atmosphere.

High-risk pathogens, requiring containment to prevent accidental release.

Any other species, to avoid disturbing the culture and reduce the risk of experimental variations due to opening/closing.

Features

  • Crimp top compatible with aluminum septum caps, to guarantee perfectly air-tight conditions.
  • Standard serum vial format, to maintain homogeneous gas exchanges and distribution throughout culture.
  • Integrated anaerobic culture tubes, for in situ optical density measurements.
  • Resistant to extreme culture conditions (elevated pressure and temperature).
  • Easily reusable, with circular lateral “noses” allowing the use of a simple dishwasher and autoclave between experiments.
