Mouse Anti-Rat MMP9 Monoclonal IgG2a Antibody
Matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) is an extracellular endopeptidase involved in the degradation of the extracellular matrix (ECM). In the central nervous system, MMP9 regulates synaptic remodeling, neuroinflammation, and blood-brain barrier permeability.
Elevated MMP9 activity has been observed in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). MMP9 contributes to neuronal injury by promoting ECM breakdown, facilitating leukocyte infiltration, and activating pro-inflammatory cytokines.
MMP9 is synthesized as a latent proenzyme and requires proteolytic cleavage for activation. Its expression is tightly regulated at the transcriptional level and by endogenous inhibitors such as TIMPs (tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases).
Targeting MMP9 activity offers therapeutic potential for preserving blood-brain barrier integrity, reducing neuroinflammation, and limiting tissue damage in neurodegenerative conditions.
This Mouse Anti-Rat MMP9 Monoclonal IgG2a Antibody is manufactured in Canada by StressMarq.
