About Cytokines

Cytokines are a cornerstone of any study that deals with inflammation. Cytokine profiles as a whole and the relative abundance of one cytokine, and the endogenous inhibitors, define an inflammatory process that is in motion. Specific cytokines of interest include interleukins, interferons, chemokins, and members of the tumor necrosis factor and TGF beta super families.

Cytokine sandwich ELISA are sensitive enzyme immunoassays that can specifically detect and quantitate the concentration of soluble cytokine and chemokine proteins. They allow researchers to study the complicated physiological and pathological roles of cytokines in systemic inflammatory reactions, and accurately measure the levels of specific cytokines under physiological and pathological conditions which can provide valuable insight into the changes associated with different disease states.

About Interleukin-6 (IL-6)

IL-6 is a pleiotropic cytokine that plays a crucial role in regulating the acute phase response, inflammation, hematopoiesis, glucose metabolism, bone metabolism, and cancer progression. IL-6 is an early marker of acute inflammation. In patients with COVID-19, IL-6 levels are significantly elevated and associated with adverse clinical outcomes. Therefore, serum IL-6 is an important biomarker for severity of COVID-19 and has great potential for guiding treatment of the disease.

IL-6 can reliably be measured by ELISA (cat.no. BI-IL6) in human serum, plasma and urine samples with Biomedica’s fully validated assay kit. The kit is highly sensitive and offers a wide dynamic range. The kit incorporates ready to use standards and controls.

The Anti-SARS-CoV-2 S1 (RBD) IgG ELISA Assay Kit is manufactured in Germany by Mediagnost. This assay is a highly specific enzyme immunoassay for the detection of IgG antibodies directed against SARS-CoV-2-S1 Receptor Binding Domain (RBD) in human blood. In this assay the recombinant Receptor Binding Domain (RBD) of SARS-CoV-2 S1 spike protein, which binds the ACE2 receptor, is used. The use of RBD increases the specificity of the assay since the domain is identical with SARS-CoV but not with MERS-CoV for example. Antibodies directed against the RBD neutralize both virus strains SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2.

This assay is a module based Enzyme Immunoassay for the confirmation of positive IgG antibodies against SARS coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in the first screening. The Anti-SARS-CoV-2 (S1, S2, N) IgG ELISA Assay Kit determines the specificity of antibodies against the main immunodominant antigens (Spike Glycoprotein 1, Spike Glycoprotein 2, Nucleocapsid) of SARS-CoV-2 in human serum or plasma. This test kit consists of modules separately coated with the major antigens of the virus as seen in the illistration below:

Through our collaboration with ImmunAware, we are excited to offer a new range of products: easYmer MHC Tetramers. This product allows laboratories to easily generate monomers using their choice of peptide. The resulting monomers can also be easily tetramerized using fluorophore conjugated streptavidin. These tetramers can then be used to stain cognate T cells for flow cytometry. easYmers allow end users to rapidly produce large quantities of pMHC monomers with a single epitope, to produce and screen pMHC monomers with many different peptide epitope candiates in parallel, and to validate peptide HLA bonding.
