Complement Factor P Quantitative Assay Kit
Complement Factor P, also known as Properdin, is a positive regulator of the alternative complement pathway. It binds to and stabilizes the C3 and C5 convertase complexes, enhancing complement activation and promoting pathogen clearance. Quantitative measurement of Factor P provides information on the concentration of this key complement protein, allowing researchers and clinicians to investigate normal, deficient, or elevated levels that may affect complement function. Unlike functional assays, which assess activity, quantitative assays specifically determine the amount of Factor P present.
In research settings, quantitative Factor P measurement is used to study immune system regulation and complement-mediated diseases. Researchers can investigate associations between Factor P levels, inflammatory status, or genetic variations affecting complement regulation. It is particularly useful in experimental models of autoimmunity, infections, and inflammatory disorders, where alterations in Factor P levels may influence complement activity and disease-related processes. Quantitative measurements can also be used to evaluate changes in Factor P levels following experimental treatments or other interventions.
In clinical settings, Factor P quantification can support the evaluation of congenital or acquired deficiencies, which may increase susceptibility to infections, particularly those caused by Neisseria species. Altered Factor P levels may also be associated with complement dysregulation in conditions such as atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) and other complement-mediated disorders. Quantitative Factor P measurements, particularly when combined with functional complement assays and other complement biomarkers, can provide additional information about alternative pathway status and complement system activity.
