Various Species LBP ELISA Kit
Lipopolysaccharide Binding Protein (LBP) is a type 1 acute phase protein primarily synthesized by the liver that plays an important role in the body’s response to lipopolysaccharide (LPS), a component of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria. LBP binds LPS and facilitates its transfer to cell-surface receptors, including CD14, promoting recognition of LPS by immune cells and the release of inflammatory mediators. LBP also contributes to the neutralization and clearance of LPS by facilitating its transfer to lipoproteins and subsequent removal from the circulation. In healthy individuals, plasma LBP levels are typically present at relatively low concentrations but can increase substantially during acute phase responses, reflecting its role in innate immune and inflammatory processes.
In research settings, LBP is widely studied as a biomarker of innate immune activation, inflammation, and responses to bacterial endotoxin. Researchers measure LBP concentrations in serum, plasma, and cell culture supernatants to investigate LPS-mediated immune responses and inflammatory processes across different experimental models and species. LBP measurements can be used to study conditions involving infection, sepsis, metabolic dysfunction, and other inflammatory processes, as well as to evaluate the effects of genetic modifications or experimental treatments on LPS responses.
In clinical research, LBP is investigated as a biomarker associated with systemic inflammation and endotoxin exposure. Changes in LBP concentrations have been studied in conditions involving bacterial infection, inflammatory disorders, and metabolic disease. Quantitative measurement of LBP across multiple species can support comparative and translational research into LPS-mediated immune activation and help characterize changes in innate immune responses across experimental models.
