Guinea Pig Immunoglobulin G (IgG) is a major antibody isotype produced by the immune system of Cavia porcellus in response to antigens. Structurally, it shares many features with IgG from other mammals—comprising two heavy and two light chains—but exhibits species-specific epitopes that make it useful in immunological studies. The purified form of Guinea Pig IgG is often obtained through serum collection and protein A/G affinity chromatography, providing a highly specific reagent for immunoassays and antibody production research.

Research and Clinical Uses:
In research settings, Guinea Pig IgG serves primarily as a control or secondary antibody in immunoassays such as ELISA, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry. Because Guinea Pig antibodies tend to have minimal cross-reactivity with antibodies from commonly used species (e.g., mouse, rabbit, or goat), they are valuable for multiplex assays where multiple antibodies from different species are applied simultaneously. Guinea Pig IgG is also employed in the generation of anti-Guinea Pig secondary antibodies and in studying complement activation and immune complex formation.

Clinically and in translational research, Guinea Pig IgG plays a role in vaccine development, infectious disease modeling, and immunopathology studies. Guinea pigs are often used as models for human diseases such as tuberculosis, diphtheria, and certain viral infections, making their IgG response a critical biomarker for evaluating immunogenicity and protective immunity. The ability to measure and characterize Guinea Pig IgG responses helps researchers assess vaccine efficacy and understand host-pathogen interactions in preclinical models.
