Complement Factor H-Related Protein 4 (FHR-4) ELISA Kit

Complement Factor H-related protein 4 (FHR-4) is a glycoprotein belonging to the factor H-related protein family, which shares structural similarities with Complement Factor H (CFH), an important regulator of the complement system. FHR-4 exists in two splice variants, FHR-4A and FHR-4B, which differ in their size and number of short consensus repeat (SCR) domains. FHR-4 is involved in the complement regulatory network and has been shown to interact with complement components, including C3b, suggesting a role in regulation of alternative pathway activity. FHR-4 can also bind to damaged or necrotic cells and may contribute to their recognition and clearance. The biological functions and mechanisms of FHR-4 remain an active area of research, and the ELISA recognizes both FHR-4A and FHR-4B.

In research settings, FHR-4 is studied to better understand complement regulation, immune recognition, and mechanisms of complement-mediated inflammation and tissue injury. Researchers investigate FHR-4 concentrations and interactions with complement components to characterize its potential role in alternative pathway regulation and the clearance of damaged cells. Quantitative measurement of FHR-4 can also be used to investigate changes in complement-related proteins across experimental models and to explore relationships between FHR-4 levels and complement-mediated disease processes.

In clinical research, alterations in FHR-4 levels have been investigated in conditions involving complement dysregulation, particularly age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Although some studies have reported associations between elevated FHR-4 levels and AMD, findings have not been entirely consistent, and the precise role of FHR-4 in disease development remains under investigation. Measuring FHR-4 alongside other complement components can provide additional information for studying complement activity and investigating the potential relationship between FHR-4 and complement-mediated disease mechanisms.
