The Rat Alpha 2-Microglobulin ELISA Kit is a highly sensitive two-site enzyme linked immunoassay (ELISA) for measuring Alpha 2-Macroglobulin in biological samples of rats.

SKU: R2M21-K01 Category:

Alpha-2-Microglobulin (A2M) is a large plasma glycoprotein primarily produced by the liver and functions as a broad-spectrum protease inhibitor. It binds and neutralizes a wide range of proteolytic enzymes, such as trypsin, thrombin, and plasmin, thereby playing an essential role in regulating protease activity within the circulation. In rats, A2M is considered a major acute-phase protein that increases in response to inflammation, tissue injury, or infection. Because of its involvement in immune regulation, cytokine transport, and clearance of proteases, A2M serves as a sensitive biomarker for assessing inflammatory and hepatic responses in experimental models.

The Rat Alpha-2-Microglobulin ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of A2M in serum, plasma, or other biological samples. In research settings, it is commonly used to evaluate systemic inflammation, monitor acute-phase responses, and study liver function in toxicology and pharmacology studies. A2M levels can also reflect stress responses and disease progression in models of infection, autoimmune disorders, and metabolic dysfunction. In more clinically oriented research, A2M measurement provides insight into the overall inflammatory state and protease regulation, making it useful for preclinical evaluations of new drug candidates and therapeutic interventions targeting inflammatory or hepatic pathways.
