Human Fatty acid-binding proteins (H-FABP) ELISA Kit

Fatty acid-binding proteins (FABPs) are a class of cytoplasmic proteins that bind long-chain fatty acids. These small intracellular proteins, typically approximately 13–14 kDa, show a high degree of tissue specificity and play important roles in the intracellular transport, utilization, and metabolism of fatty acids. There are at least nine distinct types of FABPs, each with a characteristic pattern of tissue expression. Due to its small size, heart-type fatty acid-binding protein (H-FABP), also known as FABP3, can be rapidly released from cells following tissue injury. H-FABP is predominantly expressed in cardiac muscle and is also present in other tissues, including skeletal muscle and brain. In healthy individuals, H-FABP is present in serum or plasma at relatively low concentrations, with levels reported to increase slightly with age.

In research settings, H-FABP is used as a biomarker to study cardiac and tissue injury, fatty acid metabolism, and cellular responses to ischemic conditions. Researchers investigate changes in H-FABP concentrations in experimental models of myocardial injury and other conditions involving tissue damage. H-FABP measurements can also be used to investigate the timing and extent of cardiac injury and to evaluate experimental interventions affecting myocardial damage or recovery. Because H-FABP can be released rapidly following tissue injury, it can provide useful information for studying early changes associated with experimental cardiac injury.

In clinical settings, H-FABP has been investigated as a biomarker of myocardial injury, particularly following acute myocardial infarction (AMI), because circulating concentrations can increase rapidly following cardiac injury and generally return toward baseline within approximately 12–24 hours. H-FABP has also been studied in relation to estimation of infarct size and recurrent myocardial injury. In addition, FABP measurements have been investigated as biomarkers of injury in other tissues, including brain and skeletal muscle. H-FABP measurements, together with other cardiac and tissue injury biomarkers, can provide information for studying the biological processes associated with tissue damage and recovery.
