Monkey Albumin ELISA Kit
Albumin is the most abundant serum protein in mammals, including non-human primates, playing essential roles in maintaining oncotic pressure, transporting endogenous and exogenous ligands (e.g., fatty acids, hormones, metal ions), and acting as an antioxidant. Structurally, albumin is a ~66 kDa protein comprised of three α-helical domains and multiple disulfide bonds, which gives it a stable conformation and high binding capacity. ([BioMed Central][1]) In monkeys (e.g., *Macaca* species), genetic polymorphisms of albumin have been identified: for instance, rhesus macaque albumin exists in at least two variants (Mac A and Mac B) distinguished by a single amino-acid substitution that alters bilirubin-binding affinity. ([PubMed][2])
In disease models, albumin in monkeys can serve as an indicator of vascular or renal integrity. For example, in a glaucoma model using monkeys, retinal albumin was found to be significantly elevated in diseased eyes, likely due to blood-retinal barrier disruption and/or cellular uptake; this increase was positively correlated with the degree of glaucomatous damage. ([PMC][3]) Moreover, albuminuria (urinary albumin) has been used in cynomolgus monkeys as an early biomarker of nephrotoxicity, rising before classic markers like blood urea nitrogen. ([PubMed][4])
This Monkey Albumin ELISA Kit is manufactured in USA by Eagle Biosciences.
