Homoarginine ELISA Kit is intended to be used for the quantitative determination of homoarginine in serum, plasma, or cell culture samples. The Homoarginine ELISA Kit is for reseach use only and not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.

Homoarginine is a naturally occurring amino acid derivative formed from lysine, with a molecular weight of 188.23. It plays a critical role in enhancing the bioavailability of nitric oxide (NO), a key physiological mediator involved in vascular homeostasis. By supporting NO production, homoarginine contributes to improved endothelial function, which is vital for the regulation of blood pressure, vascular resistance, and vascular integrity. Clinical and epidemiological studies have shown that reduced plasma levels of homoarginine are linked to endothelial dysfunction and a heightened risk of cardiovascular conditions such as coronary heart disease.
In both research and clinical settings, homoarginine is increasingly recognized as a promising biomarker for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. NO’s biological functions span several systems, influencing platelet aggregation, leukocyte adhesion, smooth muscle proliferation, and even erectile function. In disease states such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, pre-eclampsia, and erectile dysfunction, NO activity is often impaired, thereby worsening disease progression. Monitoring homoarginine levels can provide insight into NO-mediated vascular function, supporting early detection and risk assessment in these conditions.
To facilitate the measurement of homoarginine, this ELISA kit enables the quantitative detection of derivatized homoarginine in biological matrices such as plasma, serum, and cell culture samples. During sample preparation, homoarginine is converted insto N-acylhomoarginine and measured through a colorimetric reaction using TMB as a substrate. The intensity of the signal, inversely proportional to the homoarginine concentration, provides accurate and reproducible results, making it a valuable tool for exploring the biochemical pathways and disease associations involving nitric oxide dysregulation.
