Thyroglobulin autoantibodies (TgAA) are autoantibodies directed against thyroglobulin, a protein produced by the thyroid gland that is essential for thyroid hormone synthesis. The presence of TgAA reflects an autoimmune response against thyroid tissue and is commonly associated with autoimmune thyroid diseases such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Graves’ disease. Elevated TgAA levels can indicate ongoing thyroid inflammation or immune-mediated damage, making them a valuable biomarker for both diagnosis and monitoring of thyroid autoimmunity.
The TgAA ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) allows for the sensitive and specific detection of TgAA in serum or plasma.
