The M5 Acetylcholine Receptor (M5 AChR) ELISA Kit is designed to detect and quantify antibodies against the M5 muscarinic acetylcholine receptor (M5 AChR), a G-protein–coupled receptor predominantly expressed in the central nervous system, including regions involved in dopaminergic signaling such as the midbrain. M5 AChR is important for modulating dopamine release, cerebral blood flow, and reward-related behaviors. Autoantibodies targeting M5 AChR have been associated with neurological and neuroimmune disorders, making their detection valuable for research into immune-mediated modulation of central nervous system function.
In this ELISA assay, microplate wells are coated with recombinant or synthetic M5 AChR antigens to capture M5 AChR–specific antibodies from serum, plasma, or other biological samples. Following binding, an enzyme-linked secondary antibody produces a colorimetric signal proportional to the concentration of anti-M5 AChR antibodies. This approach provides a sensitive, specific, and reproducible method for quantifying receptor-targeting antibodies.
Applications of the M5 AChR ELISA Kit include investigating autoimmune or neuroimmune mechanisms in neurological disorders, monitoring antibody responses in experimental models of CNS dysfunction, and studying cholinergic modulation of dopaminergic pathways. Measuring these antibodies helps elucidate immune-mediated effects on neurotransmission and supports research into potential therapeutic strategies targeting the cholinergic system.
