EDN ELISA Kit

The EDNA ELISA is intended for the quantitative determination of EDN (eosinophil-delivered neutotoxin) in serum, plasma, urine and stool. This product is for research use only and should not be used in diagnostic procedures.

Eosinophil-derived neurotoxin (EDN), also known as eosinophil protein X (EPX) or RNASE2, is a cationic glycoprotein released from activated eosinophils during immune responses. EDN has potent cytotoxic and antiviral properties, particularly at mucosal surfaces such as the skin, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, and urogenital system—areas that serve as primary entry points for pathogens. When eosinophils degranulate, EDN is released into surrounding tissues, and its accumulation is closely associated with inflammation and tissue injury, especially within the intestines.

In research and clinical settings, EDN serves as a valuable biomarker for assessing eosinophil-driven inflammation. Measuring EDN in stool provides an objective indicator of active or subclinical gastrointestinal inflammation and is particularly useful in monitoring conditions like Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, where EDN levels correlate with disease activity and can help predict relapses. EDN quantification is also relevant in evaluating food allergies, guiding elimination diets, assessing mucosal barrier integrity in chronic inflammatory bowel diseases or colon cancer, and identifying intestinal parasitic infections.

The Immundiagnostik AG EDN enzyme immunoassay enables quantitative measurement of EDN in serum, plasma, urine, and stool, supporting both diagnostic applications and research focused on eosinophilic activity, mucosal immunity, and inflammatory disease mechanisms.
